What is the High Line? New York City Travel Vlog #57 In this video I'm going to take you on a tour of The High Line in New York City and show you some interesting history of how it came to be! For nature lovers visiting New York City, I recommend taking a walk on The High Line! The High Line currently requires timed entry in which you login to a downloaded app. You will be allowed to enter at your designated time. We did not plan ahead and we had to wait about 20 minutes. After walking the high line from South to North, the walk ended in the Hudson Yards right at the Vessel which is the coolest building for the perfect photo opportunity!!! New York City's newest neighborhood, Hudson Yards, is a must-visit when you're in Manhattan. And if you're arriving via the High Line, there's a lot to see before getting there. We stopped at the Chelsea Market and saw Little Island before making it to Hudson Yards. The top attraction there is the Edge, an amazing observation deck with fantastic views of NYC. You can also enjoy The Shed, The Shops, and The Vessel when it reopens. In the late spring of 2022, what began as ambition to push the limits of highlining in Australia became the reality of the most momentous Australian highline record to date. On November 17th, 2022, a core crew of the NSW highline community successfully established a 1.29km-long highline . This is not the first time this NSW crew have broken records Down Under. In the past two years, the Australian highline length record has been broken no fewer than three times by this team. The knowledge, skill, resilience, and enthusiasm of the team – as well as the favorable topology and recent availability of high-tech webbing – are key contributors to the success of this dream.
Narrated by actress Susan Sarandon, this hour-long documentary film showcases the High Line, a most unusual and unlikely public park. Since opening in 2009, it has become a top global tourist destination, with nearly 5 million visitors annually. Since 1998, Great Museums' call to action has been find the museum in your own backyard. The High Line is a perfect example. "The long, narrow High Line is like a gallery in a museum where the city itself is on display," explains co-executive productive Marc Doyle. "You see the Statue of Liberty looking one way and the Empire State building looking the other." The mile-and-a half-long High Line offers visitors a carefully curated world of woodlands, thickets, prairies and meadows - floating 30 feet in the air - through 22 blocks of Manhattan's West Side. It is like a living museum of plants - a tour de force of public landscaping - carefully curated atop an abandoned elevated railroad that was saved from the wrecking ball. "We filmed the High Line over the course of two years to capture the full glory of all four seasons," says Chesney Doyle, co-executive producer of Great Museums. "Elevated Thinking" is the story of a grassroots effort, led by Friends of the High Line co-founders Robert Hammond and Joshua David, to buck city hall and save a massive, derelict, mile-and-half-long, freight railway from demolition. Against all odds, they built a coalition of neighbors, real estate developers, philanthropists, and city officials, including the support of the Bloomberg administration. CSX Transportation, which had purchased the High Line 1998, supported the idea of repurposing the High Line and eventually donated the structure to the city. "Many residents thought it was a big, ugly piece of junk in the sky," says Great Museums' Chesney Doyle. "Now it's a model for communities everywhere."

The High Line is a public park built on a 1.45-mile-long elevated rail structure running from Gansevoort Street to West 34th Street on Manhattan's West Side. The High Line used to be a freight rail line, in operation from 1934 to 1980. It carried meat to the meatpacking district, agricultural goods to the factories and warehouses of the industrial West Side, and mail to the Post Office. The High Line design is a collaboration between James Corner Field Operations (Project Lead), Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and planting designer Piet Oudolf. 🤍

This was a dream of mine for years. Justin Smestad and I helped Jerry Miszewski and Faith Dickey establish this in 2015, I rigged it with Friedi Kuhne, Lukas Irmler and Kyle Lovett in 2018 and now this time I rigged it 100% by myself in 11hrs 59min while I was hanging out with my friends Nick McPherson and Brian Ward. I believe this is the largest line ever rigged completely solo and it’s Yosemite’s longest line currently. I did enough pulling to equal hauling a 120lb haul bag up the entire face of El Capitan because of the Z dragging. I was only able to do this because Emily May hit me up on her way to Yosemite to tell me about their secret project with a Canadian group (Jan blazek Jirka georga Maurie kowalski) and I realized their line would have been up after I’ve been packing for 2 weeks for this and I can’t go later because GGBY and next year the area is closed for road construction. They were super kind enough to wait to rig it until I was done with this project in this video. I rigged it with the intention of rope swinging which went successful and will be in another episode. I did not walk this line because of the time crunch and Emily had a time crunch as well. She did great on it. Crossing it 3x with not that much time left in the day. Here is the story of this line being rigged! It is rigged all natural meaning there are no bolts installed so we wrap trees and boulders. With BFKs or Big Fat Knots, each anchor point is independent. Main webbing gets tensioned, and backup webbing does not. We did it! The Lapporten Project by 🤍northernlines_slackline officially got a highline world record at 2130m long (1.3 miles) but it isn't just the length, it was in a really remote location making the rigging quite complex. Today we will discover one of New Yorks most exciting urban parks, The High Line. Stretching 1.45 miles through the Meatpacking District and Chelsea along the west side of Manhattan, the High Line is one of New York’s newest—and most innovative—green spaces. The park is built along an elevated railway 30 feet above the ground, the High Line weaves between buildings, offering vistas of the city and the Hudson River that are by turns dazzling and intimate. Throughout our walk, you’ll spot food and gift vendors, an array of public art, and year-round gardens inspired by the plants and grasses that once grew wild on the abandoned tracks. As we continue our stroll above the city, watch a New Yorkers lounge in the sun, then later gaze up at the brightly lit Hudson Yards. The High Line stretches from Gansevoort Street to 34th Street in Chelsea along Tenth Avenue, curving west to Twelfth Avenue around the Hudson Yards development at its northern end. Entrances every few blocks along its length lead up to the park.
