3D scanning does not have to require expensive equipment and software. Using photogrammetry techniques you can do quite a bit of scanning for free with just a camera and some free, and (partly) open-source software. For lighting, a cloudy day is good or for small objects fluorescent lighting also casts very little shadow. You can also try doing it inside a shadow. Note: No need to install Visual SFM or CMVS, just extract Visual SFM, then extract CMVS into the same folder. The download link for CMVS is on this page, lower right called "Download Zip". 🤍 In the zip file open "BinariesWIn-Linux / Win64-VS2010" Then copy all the files in there and paste them in the same folder as Visual SFM Of course if you're using WIn32 you'll do that one instead. If you press tab and nothing happens all I can say is make sure CMVS is installed as described and check the log window for errors. I don't know any more than that. Many people are confused about where all the files go. They really all just get dumped into the same folder. Here's what mine looks like: 🤍 This info is in an annotation in the video but you may not see it on mobile devices: "Surface Reconstruction Poisson" has been moved in newer versions. Look for "Screened Poisson Surface Reconstruction" under Filters, then Remeshing, Simplification and Reconstruction. Many people are asking if it could done with video and the frames saved out to make the photos. It probably could but I don't think the quality would be as good because photos are higher resolution and also taking stills forces you to pay attention to the framing, lighting, focus, etc. to get the best quality images possible. -I've put a lot of work into this tutorial as well as the comments and description text. This video demonstrates how the most recent version of VisualSfM and MeshLab are nicely integrated and how the files produced by VisualSfM can be used by MeshLab to make a 3D reconstruction of an aerial mapping project and automatically transfers all the necessary camera positions into MeshLab, saving hours and hours of time. This method is a lot quicker to use vs. CMP_MVS, but the results are not as astonishing or precise. The Poisson generated mesh is an approximation of the point cloud and sharp edges from buildings are missing (how the roof crosses over into the wall). Correct parameters for improving that is still under research. One potential helpful issue could be to transfer the geometry from the originating point cloud back into the mesh, but that messes up the normals a lot. Hints are welcome in the comments!

Scanner un objet en 3D avec un simple appareil photo et utiliser cet objet dans Blender en utilisant des logiciels gratuits open source. Le but n'as pas été de réaliser un objet fini, mais plutôt ,de vous montrer le plus rapidement, la technique de base. - Comment utiliser facilement Visual SFM (reconstruction) - Nettoyage du nuage de points,remeshing et mise en texture de l'objet - Récupération et traitement de l'objet dans Blender Il est évident que de nombreux réglages sont possible, afin d'obtenir quelque chose de parfait.C'est à vous de fouiller et de tester des réglages différents selon vos désirs. Attention cependant à la puissance de vos machines, et de ce fait de ne pas trop monter les valeurs, par exemple dans remeshing reconstruction poisson, si vous dépassez 12 , le plantage et quasi assuré..., à moins , que vous ayez une machine de compétition... L'essentiel et de réaliser des photos sans trop bouger et dans de bons angles, mais aussi de ne pas changer de focale ou de zoom lors des captures. Pour visualSFM, les photos doivent être en .jpg Faite attention à l’éclairage qui vous rendra le traitement de l'objet plus difficile dans Mesh LAb , évitez les reflets en utilisant des éclairages indirects. Après c'est en faisant et refaisant que l'on s'améliore sur cette technique.Bon tuto, bon courage et merci a vous. Ceci est mon premier tuto , il y a beaucoup à améliorer. Here's a short vid of a mesh I made using Visual SFM and Meshlab. The idea is to take a bunch of related photos and input them to VSFM, which will generate a 3D point cloud. When it works, it's REALLY impressive. Anyway, I took the mesh and cut the hands free of the legs (pretty crudely) then gave him a skeleton and animated him in Blender. With a bit of practice, this could be an efficient way to generate models. 🤍

Test of the Visual SfM and CMPMVS workflow using stereophoto images taken using a Fuji W3. The stereophoto method provides several advantages over the standard SfM appraoch using single images: 1) The number of images can be doubled for the same photography time. 2) Additionally, the parallax (for the W3 best for objects approx 2 m from the camera) effect can be manually adjusted while photographing. 3) Finally, it is possible to use two levels of zoom simultaneously for a single camera position, which provides a richer level of detail, as can be seen in this model.
