Get My Course Linux Mastery Express: 🤍 Download MX Linux: 🤍 Download Linux Mint: 🤍 Linux Mint and MX Linux are two of the hottest, two of the most popular Linux distributions today. They both have created their own, solid userbases of millions of people because of the things they offer. MX Linux is a hyer powerful, performance driven system with one of the best toolings in an operating system I’ve seen yet. Honestly, this is a very powerful linux distro. It lets you do things that are not even possible on most other distros. Linux Mint on the other hand, is known for a super polished, premium user experience. The desktop environment, the looks, the way of doing things here has been highly coveted and it’s that Linux Mint experience that has created such a loyal fan following for mint. Both Mint and MX are top dogs in the linux scene. That’s for sure. But if you have to pick one which one should you go for? To answer this, I installed both Mint and MX on my system and started my deep research. I compared all the aspects of these two distros like the performance, the software availability, user interfaces, stability, usability and a lot more. And in this video, I’m gonna put it all in front of you, and we’ll finally see which of these two is the best, which of these two is more suitable for you. Linux Mint or MX Linux.

But nowadays, I would put Ubuntu in Decent. Mint, nowadays, I feel it's really one of the best options for a lot of people. So, I'm going to put it in Great. elementaryOS is polished like nothing else, and I love what they're doing, but if we look at where it is today, it's lagging behind GNOME in most areas. So, as it stands today, elementary OS is only Decent. Arch is a distro I've used for a while. It's a wonderful learning experience. But Arch requires more manual intervention than most distros to keep running smoothly. So, Arch is going in Good, but only if you know what you're doing. If you're a Linux beginner, it's going into the No Way category. Another distro I used for a while is Solus, and I liked it for the Budgie desktop, and for its approach of building a Linux distro from scratch, without using Ubuntu as a base for example. But Solus is going in No Way, because it pretty much feels like a dying distro these days. Fedora is the distro I use everywhere these days. And yet, I'm still only placing it in Good, not Great. Because while I feel this is the distro that is pushing the Linux desktop forward these days, I also feel they miss the mark in some ways. The terrible installer, no Nvidia drivers at install, and no Flathub one click install (for now) are things that prevent it from reaching "great" status. Ok, let's talk Deepin. It's a basic desktop environment, but it's also a distro. And it's a distro I'm putting in No, Thanks. The Desktop environment looks beautiful, but the default apps are way too basic and can't handle half of the tasks I need from them. Installing anything else results in that nice unified look being completely broken, and as such, isn't a good experience. Now, let's talk about Manjaro, and this one is going into No, Thanks. It's a distro I used a lot on my desktop, but I just can't recommend it anymore. The distro itself isn't necessarily bad, but the way it's being run absolutely is. Debian Stable is rock solid, tested to perfection and the repos are huge and well maintained. So I'm putting it in GOOD, but personally, I would never run Debian Stable on anything other than a server, because it's way too outdated. Now let's move on to PopOS. For now, I'll only put PopOS in Decent, because it's in a limbo while they develop their new Cosmic desktop shell. No updates for a year, and no word on a version this year either, it's just not good enough for a desktop distro. Gentoo isn't for me. I tried it, I understand why it exists, but I also don't really feel the need to have almost everything I install be compiled for my hardware. I don't need this level of control over what I install. Still, Gentoo is going in Good. Not for me, but I'm not going to criticize it just because I'm not the target audience. Zorin OS looks cool, it has tons of layouts, it includes a bunch of tools, but Zorin OS will go into No, Thanks, though. Because it also suffers from the "not updated often enough" problem. Now, KDE Neon, that's a good one. It also uses an older Ubuntu LTS base, which can be a problem, but it has all the latest software from KDE, from the desktop to the apps, and that's a very good mix, so it's going in Good.

It's extendable with extensions, it's customizable, and it's also themable. Now GNOME as a desktop, I find really nice to use, but there are things that bug me, like the rigidity and lack of basic options, and that means it will be in Good, not in Great. KDE has simple defaults, powerful options, plenty of customization and a large ecosystem of applications. I used KDE a TON, I always have a laptop with it installed, and it was my main DE for more than a year of running this youtube channel. It used to have a lot of bugs and stability issues, but in my experience, that's not the case anymore. I'm going to put KDE in the Great category. Budgie, I used for a while on Manjaro, as my main desktop environment. At the time, I would have put it in Good. Nowadays? It's a No, Thanks for me. Budgie is basically GNOME + some interesting addons. You can replicate it in seconds on GNOME and have a better underlying platform. XFCE, on the surface, looks very old and ugly, it doesn't really support most of the new Linux stack, like Wayland, it's not a complete experience, without its own app center for example, and it seems stuck in the past. On the other hand, it's extremely fast and responsive, it's customizable with themes, layouts, panel applets, and it can use most other DEs apps to fill in the gaps. I'm going to put it in Decent. Mate is another hard one. I loved GNOME 2 back in the day, and MATE is exactly that. That layout was wonderful, but nowadays, it suffers from the same problems as XFCE: no real wayland support, no 1:1 touchpad gestures, not a complete experience, without its own app store, or design philosophy or guidelines. MATE is going in the Decent category. Cinnamon is what Linux Mint uses, and it's pretty damn complete. It has applications for basically everything out of the box, you can do everything graphically without needing to turn to a third party app, whether it's managing software sources, installing applications, installing packages, changing every setting, you name it. So, Cinnamon goes in the GOOD category. It's a really nice choice, but compared to KDE? I can't place them on the same level. Deepin Desktop is one that looks phenomenal on the surface, but that I could never use day to day. Sure, it's beautiful, and it has a design flair and fluidity that is quite remarkable. But the default apps are way too simple and can do in most cases even less than GNOME's, which are already pretty barebones, their appstore is completely useless, and even translations are quite hesitant I just can't see why you'd pick Deepin. It's a No Thanks for me. Pantheon, elementary OS's desktop had the edge over any other GTK based desktop, 2 or 3 years ago, but it has lost every advantage it had during this time period. The team just doesn't feel like it's big enough to tackle a whole distro + desktop + suite of apps anymore, and GNOME has caught up to everything. It's a No, thanks. Unity is only Decent for me, because it looks pretty dated. The panel and its applets are straight from the GNOME 2 era, there isn't much customization to be had either, the dash isn't as useful as it once was, because using filters at the bottom isn't super intuitive or ergonomic with a mouse, and while it's a fun trip down memory lane for me, it doesn't really appeal to me all that much. And now there's Cutefish, the it was dead but apparently it's not dead, sort of desktop. And it's another one that looks great on screenshots, but it's still going to be a No Way.

I love Arch Linux and Arch-based Linux distributions, mainly because of the software availability and the rolling release model. I have looked at dozens of Arch-based distros over the years, but what do I consider the top five Arch-based distros? In this video, I will be comparing Linux Mint 19.1 to MX Linux 18.1 side by side and in depth. We will be having a look at the desktop environments, stability, usability, security, gaming, software support, community and installation ease for both the distros. SUBSCRIBE for more Linux videos. Linux Mint and MX Linux are two Linux distros, which have taken a solid base and built something beautiful on top of that. They have polished and refined two of the most loved and respected Linux distros. Linux Mint is built on the amazing Ubuntu core and MX Linux on the solid, dependable Debian stable. Now it's not easy to take something so perfect as Debian or Ubuntu and say you'll improve on that. But MX and Linux Mint have done just that. And today, MX Linux and Linux Mint are two of the most loved Linux distros. So, how do they both compare against each other? Which among them is the best? Which among them is more suitable FOR You? Linux Mint or Mx Linux. Let's find out. Linux Mint is famous for its homegrown Cinnamon desktop. Cinnamon has a very huge fan following. And looking at it, it's quite clear why. Cinnamon desktop is highly intuitive, elegant and just so gorgeous to look at. The menu is organized and accessible. Unlike GNOME desktop, the menu does not cut the users workflow. Controlling your computer is really easy. Linux Mint's interface is quite amazing. Cinnamon is also highly customizable with a wide range of themes and additional widgets called spices. The effects and animations are there, but not so much that they distract you from your work. Linux Mint scores top points in the interface department.
In this video, I'll be comparing MX Linux 18.1 with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, side by side and in depth. And as you know, I'll keep it short and on point. SUBSCRIBE for more amazing Linux videos! Ubuntu has always been the most popular of all the children of Debian. With a huge company like Canonical behind it, Ubuntu has been enjoying its status as the number one Linux distro. But a prodigal son has been on the rise. Gaining popularity in the Linux community. Yes, I am talking about MX Linux. Ubuntu is based on Debian testing branch. On the other hand, MX Linux is based on Debian stable. So yes, MX Linux is more stable than Ubuntu in a sense. But there's more to it. Debian is ridiculously stable. A stable version of Debian consists of packages that have undergone extensive testing and .. it cannot just get any more stable. Stability is the prime moto of Debian stable version. Debian doesn't even have a release schedule. A new version of Debian is released only when the developers have an absolute agreement on the impeccable stability of the packages. This is the main reason why professionals trust Debian with their servers. The same goes for MX Linux. The packages are highly stable and the MX system is highly dependable. Ubuntu is a stability-focused distro too. But it has newer packages than MX. The packages on ubuntu are updated more frequently and are generally very stable. Personally, I trust Ubuntu so much that I use it as my daily driver and I do all my development work on it. Package management is very harmonious in Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a 100 percent dependable if you do a fresh install and continue to use it as it is. No problems at all. But updating the OS has broken by display drivers, leaving me unable to boot into the OS on multiple occasions. This cannot be overlooked when you are dealing with a stable distro like Ubuntu.
