I've been waiting for my Prusa Mini to arrive for a few months, so with sky high expectations from operating two i3 MK3s which have been pretty much flawless, I excitedly set this one up. Unfortunately, there were a few problems that needed to be addressed to stop jams and failed prints. This was recorded as I went, you will notice a distinct difference in the first and second halves as I went from excited to disappointed. That is my honest impression but I'm hopeful the little bugs will be ironed out. The Prusa haters will say this is a rip off compared to an Ender 3, but to them I would say there is a lot of things this printer gets right. It's quiet, compact and has features many users fit to cheaper printers, such as ABL and a removable magnetic bed. The unboxing, assembly and guided setup and calibration have a lot of polish. The software package is super easy to setup and get going, and there is a ton of useful information in the hard copy docs and online. The Prusa lovers might try and blame me for the issues, except they are well documented by many online. Remember that the problems I had were related to components pre-assembled by Prusa, and present when using Prusa filament and gcode. The truth is there have been a few too many teething issues, but I'm sure Prusa are working hard to fix them. This is a not a review! A review would cover a much longer time span and a much wider range of printing scenarios. This is a just first impression to show the viewer an honest account of ownership. I bought the Prusa MK3S+. I was really impressed by its overall performance, high quality brand name parts, as well as every small detail they put in the design and how convenient it is as a 3D printer. The only downside is the price. It’s more expensive than all the other budget 3D printers I have. The printer itself is $750 and the shipping to the US is $50, so I had to pay $800 for this printer. However, I did make another video to compare it with the $155 Ender-3 and I still think that it’s worth it. I also got interested in their Prusa Mini Plus, which is a more budget friendly 3D printer that has a price of $349. If you want a filament sensor, you need to add $20, and shipping would be another $50. The total price I paid was $419 for this printer to be delivered to California. It’s about half the size of the Prusa MK3S+. I expect this Prusa Mini plus to be the same quality, and be just as convenient to use but with a smaller print volume. Today I will assemble it, do some test prints, and talk about what I think about this printer. In my opinion my Prusa Mini missed the mark on release. Some good features but the print quality and reliability was just not there. With plenty of folks still suffering from these issues, I decided to purchase and test the Bondtech extruder and heat-break upgrades. Make up your own mind based on the side by side before and after shots, but from my point of view the extrusion quality and consistency has improved. What do you think?
